“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is the nation's largest non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. Last year I was fortunate enough to be able to raise over $1500 for AFSP while completing RAGBRAI. It is my hope to surpass last year, and raise over $2000 for AFSP while completing almost a dozen triathlons, half marathons, and multisport races.
As many of you may know, I lost someone extremely close to me to suicide in April of 2015. Steven was a bright light in the lives of all he met; and for those of us lucky enough to know him, he changed and touched our lives forever. Steven was an avid cyclist, and shared his passion for the sport with many. He is the sole reason I love cycling as much as I do, and I feel honored to be able to continue racing in his honor.
The money I raise will help AFSP fund scientific research, educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention, promote policies and legislation that impact suicide, and support survivors of suicide loss and people at risk. I am honored to be racing for all of us that have been touched in some way by suicide, and it is my hope that bringing attention to this topic helps individuals like Steven realize just how remarkably talented, extremely loved, and truly special they are.
Just as I said in the eulogy...I am forever changed for having Steven in my life, and I am grateful for every day we had together. He has been and always will be our strength, our compassion, our wit, our selflessness, and our forever angel.
Please help me contribute to a charity and cause so dear to my heart. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP and all donations are 100% tax deductible. Donating online is safe and easy.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page, and as always, thank you for the continued outpouring of love and support. Please wish me luck in completing my training/racing this summer and making it to each starting line healthy. I will take it from there.
