I will be participating in 46 Climbs for Suicide Prevention to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.
I am hiking again this year to honor my dear friend Nathaniel Herman Maurer who was lost over two years ago to suicide. Nate was a giant of a man, both in his stature and his presence. He meant so much to me and so many others that were lucky enough to call him a friend. Nate was a teammate, a coach, a sounding board, a drinking buddy, a reality check and above all a one man cheering section anytime a friend had success. There was nothing better than telling Nate good news and seeing him respond with that beaming smile and those mile deep dimples. You could always count on Nate to be there for whatever was needed (even if that meant him telling you something you didn't want to hear). He gave so much of himself to others despite the struggles he was going through in his own life. That's how he touched so many people and why his presence is still felt today. The pain from his passing has not dulled over time but neither has the impact that he had on my life and the lives of all those who love him. That's why we continue on in his memory.
I hope you will consider supporting my participation in this event. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP, and all donations are 100% tax deductible.
AFSP is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 38,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
