Hi, my name is Ben Escobar. Last year I lost two people very close to my heart to suicide. I lost Gary (67), a good friend who never failed to put smiles on others’ faces, and Ezekiel (16), my nephew who was like a second son to me.
On May 2, Jesse Chuy Rodriguez called me to ask if I wanted to participate in the Dancing With The Community Stars event at the Oxnard Salsa Festival. After going over all of the charities that were available, he mentioned the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and I was instantly motivated to be a part of something that supported a cause so dear to my heart. Deep within me I knew I would be honoring the lives of Gary and Ezekiel and contributing to a tragic cause that affects millions yearly. I met with Frances Berumen, my sponsor, who also lost her son Michael (30) to suicide 5 years ago. She opened up my eyes to all the services offered by the foundation to help those in need.
Above you will find a button which directly funds the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I encourage all those who are reading to donate and share this link; every dollar helps. If you are unable to donate at this time, it would be greatly appreciated if you shared this link. At the end of the day, my number one goal is to spread awareness.
I would like to give a special thanks from the bottom of my heart to all of those who have assisted Frances in meeting the entry fee required to allow all of this to happen, which is in turn exposing the community of Oxnard and surrounding cities to all of these great services.
