Suicide is the 10th highest cause of death in our country today. According to the National Mental Health Institute, suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-34 year olds.

As you may know, our family lost Jacob Oslin to suicide earlier this year. Jake's family, parents Denise and John Oslin, and brothers Nick and Luke, want to shed light on mental illness and hope to help destigmatize mental health issues such as depression. By bringing awareness, they believe that they may prevent other families from experiencing the tragedy and devastation of suicide. Even one prevented death is worth all the effort.

Denise is running the Detroit Half Marathon on October 15th. October 20th would have been Jake's 18th birthday, so to honor his memory, we have set up this campaign to raise money for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide.

If you donate $20.00 or more, and would like a shirt (pictured below), please IM Denise your size (women's and men's sizes are both available).  Shirt sizes must be received by October 5.  This is the shirt Denise and her team will be wearing during the Detroit race.   All donations large and small are much appreciated and will go to a worthy cause.
