Hiking for Hope and Healing

A personal campaign sponsored by Staci Anderson

About Me

My name is Staci "Artemis" Anderson, and I am excited to announce my participation with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention during my southbound thru-hike of the 2650 mile Pacific Crest Trail!

In July of 2018, I will embark on my long walk on the PCT from the Northern U.S. border with Canada to the Southern border with Mexico.  This is in honor of my loved ones who are dealing with mental illness, and for those who need someone to reach out to when they are struggling with depression.  I hope to raise awareness for suicide prevention and putting an end to the stigma surrounding mental illness, as well as raising at least $1 per mile hiked.

Every year, more than 44,000 Americans die by suicide.  For my time spent on the PCT and for every mile that I hike, at least 5 people will take their lives.  These numbers are troubling, and I want to help.

I'm no stranger to the trail, having grown up near the trailhead at Snoqualmie Pass in Washington State.  In 2016, I completed a northbound thru-hike of the PCT, in addition to other long distance trails. I am excited to return to my first love, the Pacific Crest Trail, and see it from a different point of view while giving back to the community along the way.

Ways to Help

1. Donate!

The AFSP is a fantastic organization that provides important funding to improve interventions, train clinicians in suicide prevention, and advocate for policies that will save lives.  They aim to find better ways to reach those who suffer, and encourage schools, workplaces, and communities to make mental health a priority.  They also bring hope to those who are struggling themselves, and help those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Please consider donating on my behalf to help prevent suicide and help those who have who have been affected.  Any amount is appreciated and will surely help.  All money raised goes directly to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

2. Support My Hike by Liking, Sharing & Caring!

Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail is a huge undertaking:  I'm usually obligated to hiking over 20 miles a day to complete it, and sometimes even up to 30 miles!  I need lots of moral support, as the trail is often more mentally exhausting than it is physically.  I'll be writing updates of my journey on my website blog at ArtemisHikes.com and posting regularly on my social media accounts.  This is a good way to "hike with me."  Sharing my cause on social media and helping to spread the word would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks to all who have supported me, my causes and hiking over the years.

Much love,

-Staci (Artemis)
