Matthew K. Lantz, 24, of Stafford, Virginia, left this world all too soon on December 11, 2017.He was born December 22, 1992 in Newport News, Virginia, to Richard and Kathy (Johnson) Lantz.Majority of his childhood was spent in Stafford, where he graduated from Mountain View High School in 2011.

Matthew was a man of many interests, ventures, and worldly aspirations. He favored flare and extravagance, with no limit to his imagination. He was funny and smart, with a very unique sense of humor. He had a love of animals and family that showed a sensitive and compassionate side that always made him smile. His heart truly grew with the birth of his nephews, treasuring all of the time they spent together. He dabbled in many life paths from the military, computers, horticulture, until finally finding his love of the culinary arts.Even in his early childhood he always seemed at home in the kitchen. You could never predict what type of concoction he was going to mix up or bake, root beer rice for example; but years of practice ended with fabulous feasts.Starting with his first easy bake oven from Christmas of 2002, he grew to become the Head Line Chef at Mercantile in Fredericksburg. Here he was truly in his element, learning his craft, and making great jellies!

Matthew is survived by his parents Richard and Kathy Lantz; his sister Elizabeth L. Nonnenmacher (David); his brother Eric Lantz; maternal grandparents Bernard and Ada Johnson; paternal grandmother Barbara Shay (Arthur Shay); nephews Lucas and Nicholas Nonnenmacher; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Kermit Lantz.

Visitation will be held at 10 am, Saturday December 16, at the Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service in Stafford, with a service to immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations be given to the Matthew Lantz’s Memorial Fund at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. https://afsp.donordrive.com/campaign/MatthewLantzMemorial
