The mission behind Race the River 2017 is to raise awareness for suicide and to impact the lives of those affected by it. Ultimately, we hope to raise money for the American foundation for suicide prevention. For those dealing with a loss of a loved one to suicide, we sympathize and want to make an impact.

Our goal is huge. We plan to canoe all 981 miles of the Ohio River--from start to finish—throughout the summer of 2017. Actualizing this goal means that we will be the youngest men in history to complete this route, a goal only achievable due to our passion for suicide prevention.

For our Race the River team, suicide is a personal issue. I lost my best friend to suicide during my freshman year in college. For those dealing with a loss of a loved one to suicide, we sympathize and want to make an impact. Though his death was tragic, it inspired me to help those who are also affected. About a year after his passing, I decided to take on the Ohio River and raise Money for Suicide Awareness.

We hope to bring those affected together and to remind them they are not alone. Our hope is to inspire and save lives before it is too late. Even an impact on one individual’s life means our mission is a success.

Please spread the word!

Stay tuned to the project, and the 981 mile journey that is before us. We will constantly be updating the Facebook page with our progress @ Race the River 2017. From our whereabouts--to personal testimonies from the river--to updates on our fundraising amounts. Thank you!
