We are joining the community of nearly 250k people walking in hundreds of cities across the country in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. Early on Saturday, October 26th approx 8:00 am we will be at Addison Circle Park, Addison Texas getting ready for a 5K Walk for AFSP. Last year I started a suicide survivors grief group at First United Methodist Church Richardson, and we meet the 2nd & 4th Mondays at 6:30 in Room 214 upstairs in the Education Wing.
I invite anyone in the area to join our group, and to walk with us on the 26th, or be a virtual walker. Or pick a team member and support them financially. Walkers raising $150 or more you will earn a T-Shirt. The walk is for people who have lost loved ones to suicide, have attempted to end their own lives, and all those who want to make a difference, prevent suicide from happening to others, and end the stigmas surrounding mental health and depression.
Points of Light Ministry is a Caring Ministry of First United Methodist Church Richardson located at 503 N Central Expwy, Richardson, TX 75080.
We believe God is all knowing and loves unconditionally. God cares about you, does not judge you based on your mental health, does not condemn you because of your illness or suicidal thoughts/attempts. God knows your suffering and your pain, walks with you on your journey through this darkness, even if you can’t feel God’s presence.
AFSP is one of the largest private organizations who grants funds to researchers to find ways to prevent suicide. Their goal is reduce the occurrence of suicide by 20% by the year 2025. Any amount small or large will help this cause. See our local chapter page https://afsp.org/chapter/afsp-north-texas/ for info on the Points of Light Ministry grief group and lots of other great resources.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal by donating to a team member. To donate online, please select "Roster" and then choose one of the team members listed. Once you're on their page, click "Donate Now." Donations can only be made to individuals, but the total each participant raises goes toward our team goal.
All donations are 100% tax deductible and will help bring AFSP one step closer to achieving their bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
