Join Me in Supporting the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
I'm walking in the Out of the Darkness Hilton Head/Bluffton Area Walk to fight suicide and support AFSP's bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Driving home tonight, I was inspired to deliver a message of Life, of Hope, of Love, of Future, of Help, of being a part of a miracle.
But first the bad news. Suicide is an epidemic. It kills almost 43,000 Americans every year. It is the second leading cause of death in our young people. Veterans, who make up 22.2% of that number, will die by suicide more than combat. The statistics are staggering. And yet, where are our legislators, our administrations, our national leaders when it comes to research and prevention? They are hiding suicide in the back of the closet because it is taboo to even speak its name. And that is why suicide is such an aggressive and successful killer. It does not discriminate and we won't face this monster nor even speak its name.
Now the good news: So we must do this ourselves if it is to be done. WE have the power, you and I, to Make a Difference, to bring Hope, Love, Help, Future and LIFE to those who need us most. Over the years, your support of Andy in my Out of the Darkness Walks has raised enough money to bring the message of Prevention & Awareness to over 30 college campuses! Thousands of young people, their faculty, family and friends get this message of Hope, of Help, of Future, of Love and of LIFE. So again this year, my goal is for us to reach even more of those most at-risk. I am walking in November in Bluffton, SC to save lives, to bring awareness, to bring Hope, Love, Help, Future and LIFE. And we are getting there! I would love to have you join me in person or virtually by clicking the link below. Read about our Bold Goal and become a part of the most incredible day of HOPE, of JOY, of LOVE & LIGHT, of reaching out, of helping others new to this journey. It is truly exhillarating and I thank you for your support in my past walks and in this one, because YOU are the life-savers! Thank you and I am excited about what we can accomplish! For people we will never know, never meet, but we can have such an impact from the comfort of our own computer screen. Be a part of this day, and find the sheer joy in saving lives.
Be kind to that stranger ... you never know that YOU might be that ray of hope in a hopeless life. Strike up a conversation, engage them and you WILL connect. Be the Difference.
Thank you all and I am so humbled by your caring and your sharing
