Join us at the Visitors Center in Piedmont Park for the 10th Annual Atlanta Out of the Darkness Community Walk taking place on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 pm. Registration open online at outofthedarkness.org until noon on November 1st. We will also have walk up registration. There is no entry fee and no minimum donation but all we do in Georgia comes from funds raised right here. And $150 gets you our 2013 t-shirt!
Check-In and Registration happens from 1:00-2:00. Special features you’ll want to know for our walk:
Although we remember all lost to suicide, our theme for this walk is teen suicide. Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in this age group.
Survivor Area is sponsored by The Johnny Foundation. Bring a 4x6 photo of the loved one you lost to suicide (not original; one you don’t mind cutting) to make photo tiles before the walk. Then pick up after the walk.
Resource Area manned by our Survivor Outreach Program volunteers. We’ll also have Beads of Honor at these tables – different colors according to your loss.
Homer the Brave, Freddie the Falcon and Harry the Hawk are all attending our walk from 1:15-2pm!
Opening ceremonies start at 1:50 with AFSP Executive Director Bob Gebbia speaking. Music by The Digits.
The walk starts at 2:00 pm lead by the Brookwood High School Drum Line and cheerleaders are from Lassiter High School.
2 loops of the park loop are walked for a total of 3.2 miles. This is a non-competitive walk, not a run.
At the conclusion of the walk around 3:15, we will have music by Wesley Cook and our signature dove release.
Rain or shine; remember the time change (set your clocks back an hour, get an extra hour of sleep).
