*Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk! Please know that walk donations are accepted until December 31st 2013.
We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the 2nd Annual South Bay Out of the Darkness Community Walk.
Last year’s inaugural South Bay Community Walk was a success and brought together groups and individuals from all of our South Bay communities. We are looking forward to the second year in what will become a long tradition of successful fundraising and Survivor support events.
Teams that raise $1000 and have 10 or more participants registered by September 6th will have their team name printed on the official South Bay Out of the Darkness Community Walk T-Shirt ($150 individual fundraising requirements still apply to receive a shirt). For every ten people registered and $1500 raised, teams will receive a special gift at the walk.
Individuals raising $1000 or more by September 6th will become members of the Greater SF Bay Area Lifesavers Club. The Walker’s name will be listed on the T-shirt & on the website and they will receive a special gift.
We’ve also added new fundraising incentives for teams who are the leading fundraisers or who register early!
The top fundraising team the week of the walk will lead the walk and carry the Out of the Darkness Community Walk banner.
We’ll have a raffle drawing with great prizes from local businesses and organizations, AFSP Awareness merchandise, and commemorative event T-shirts for all those who raise $150 or more.
Prize Drawing: Every participant will receive a drawing ticket for prize drawings held at the end of the walk. Participants raising additional funds will receive additional tickets for more chances to win. Prizes include gift certificates, sports memorabilia and more!
Remembrance Activities: We will have several Remembrance activities for all participants to be a part of they choose. Among these will be the Remembrance Tree (pictured above) on which all participants will be able to place memories, messages to loved ones, photos and more.
AFSP is almost entirely volunteer driven, and we could not put on this great event each year without help from supporters just like you. If you’d like to help us plan or put together any part of the walk, or even volunteer to help out on the day of the event itself, we’d love to have you. Contact the Walk Committee at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
We can always use support securing donations, sponsors and volunteers.
The South Bay Community Walk route is a scenic walk throughout portions of De Ana Community College’s campus and along Stevens Creek Blvd. We will be walking mostly on paved and graded paths and there is very little elevation change and will follow a loop to return back to the staging area that we began in for our closing ceremonies. The route is wheelchair friendly throughout most of its length and is designed to be accessible for the majority of participants including family members.
If you or any members of your team would like to participate in the South Bay Community Walk but do not wish to walk the actual route, you are more than welcome to remain at the ceremony site and help our volunteers encourage and cheer on the walkers as they return to the site.
