Thank you for supporting the 2013 Birmingham Out of the Darkness Walk
This year, we will have the 8th Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Birmingham. Thanks to generous supporters, last year the Birmingham Walk ranked 6th in the nation with 1674 walkers and raising $158,137.81! We are looking forward to walking with you Sunday, November 3, 2013, in hopes of creating awareness, raising funds, and helping to save lives.
The walk will take place at Heardmont Park which is located at 5458 Cahaba Valley Road, Birmingham, Al. 35242. Click here for a MapQuest Map. Don’t forget about Daylight Savings ending that day.
Check-in begins at 1:00pm. Every person must check in, whether you pre-register online or not. Opening ceremonies will begin at 2:20 and the walk will start at 2:30. Closing ceremonies will take place at 3:30pm. We encourage you to arrive close to 1pm.
To accommodate the size of the walk, we have added new parking areas (and encourage you to carpool). Checking in close to 1pm will allow you time to visit the survivor area, AFSP info tent, non-profit booths, refreshments, and enjoy some great music.
The walking path accommodates wheelchairs and strollers. A limited amount of handicap parking will be available. Pets on a leash are welcome.
Donations can be made at the walk in the form of cash, check, or credit card. Walkers who raise $150.00 or more will receive a walk t-shirt on the day of the walk. Chapter t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
SCHOOLS – The school or school program with the most walkers registered online before the walk will get to carry the Out of the Darkness banner and lead the walk!
SURVIVORS - Please remember to bring photos or mementos of your loved ones for the remembrance wall and survivor area. We also invite you to bring shoes from your loved one that you have decorated for the survivors area. Please make sure to collect all your materials at the end of the walk.
Help us publicize the walk! Please print the attached flyer and post at work, school, church, your local Starbucks, etc. Email your friends and family the walk website link and invite them to participate. Tell your friends, family, neighbors, clergy, club members, dentist, doctors, fellow association members, coworkers, fellow alumni, barber/stylist, and everyone about this event! Ask your employer to do gift matching! You can give people this link to register - http://afsp.donordrive.com/event/Birmingham
