Be a Part of the Team That Makes it All Happen!

The Santa Rosa Out of the Darkness Walk is planned and put on by Volunteers each year. If you would like to be a part of the planning commitee and help use your skills and passion to make this event even better, just let us know.

Walk Details & Activities:

The 2014 Community Walk will have all of our Remembrance Activities and program details as well as new additions!

Stay tuned for updates and new details throughout the season!

Remembrance Activities:

Remembrance activities are a large part of the Out of the Darkness Walks, and we have several ways to show your attachement to the cause, and to remember and honor lost loved ones.

Volunteer With Us on Walk Day:

Volunteer with us on Walk Day and help us make the San Francisco Out of the Darkness Community Walk a success. Our walk is planned and managed by Volunteers just like you, and we would love to have your help on the day of the walk.

We'll have volunteers helping with everything from Event Set Up & Breakdown to Food and Beverage Stations, the Honor Bead Tent, Route Support, Prize Giveaways, and much more!

Email us if you are interested in helping with the walk or if you have any questions about Volunteering with us.

Sponsorship Opportunities:

Our generous local sponsors help make our Bay Area Out of the Darkness Walks possible. Sponsoring a walk is a great way for local businesses to support their communities and to be more visible.

If you know a business owner or local company that might want to sponsor one of the Bay Area walks, email us, or send them the sponsor packet.

Map & Driving Directions:

This year's 2nd annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk will be held at Howarth Park once more.

For driving directions and to see this map in your browser, CLICK HERE.

From OUTSIDE of Santa Rosa:
Take Highway 101 to Highway 12 East (towards Sonoma).  The highway dead-ends at Farmer's Lane.  Continue straight throught the light and across Farmer's Lane onto Hoen Avenue.  Travel east on Hoen for 1.5 miles.  Turn left onto Summerfield Road and continue for a half of a mile.  The entrance to Howarth Park will be on the right side of the road, just past Sonoma Avenue.  If you reach the tennis courts or Montgomery Drive, you have gone a little too far, so turn around and come back.

From INSIDE of Santa Rosa: Head towards the east side of town.
If you are taking either Hwy 12/Hoen Ave OR Sonoma Ave, you will be approaching the park from the south, which means you will make a left turn onto Summerfield Rd.  The entrance to Howarth Park will be on the right side of the road, just past Sonoma Avenue.

If you are taking either Montgomery Dr or 4th Street/Sonoma Hwy, you will be approaching the park from the North.  From Montgomery Dr, make a right turn onto Summerfield Rd.  The entrance will be on the left side of the road, just past the tennis courts.  From 4th Street/Sonoma Hwy, make a right turn onto Mission Blvd.  At the second stop light on Mission, the road makes a 'Y'.  Curve right onto Montogomery Dr.  Once on Montgomery, the road makes a 'Y' at the next stop light.  Curve/Turn left onto Summerfield Rd.  The entrance will be on the left side of the road, just past the tennis courts.

Parking is currently free at Howarth Park.  However, the parking lot fills rapidly, especially on the weekends, so you may wish to come early or be prepared to circle the lot for up to 20 minutes in order to get a parking spot.  Parking is available on Summerfield Road and you can enter the park from there.

Please observe all rules of the road.  This includes:

The Santa Rosa Police Department and Parking Enforcement do go through the parking lot on a regular basis several times throughout the day and do ticket vehicles NOT in compliance.

Motorcycle Parking:  Located at the upper parking lot near the boathouse.

Handicap Parking:  There are several handicap parking spaces, including one space near the snackbar, two near the boathouse, and several spaces by the gazebo/playground.  Please be sure your permit is visible and valid!

Bus Parking:  Located near the entrance/exit to the park.  Enter the park, and drive up the hill and turn left to go back down past the softball field and tennis courts.  Directly before the exit is the bus parking on the right side of the road.

*Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk during the check-in times listed above. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
