Dear Friend,
Though my sadness about losing my dear son Korey to suicide is indescribable, I want to do something to help keep others from experiencing the same pain and sorrow. I remember a quote from Mother Jones that seems to fit how I feel I need to act:
"Remember the dead and fight like hell for the living!"
By joining the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Community Walk, I feel like I am doing something toward my goal. It is also another way for me to heal.
I know the pain of my loss is shared by many. Korey's siblings, Kris, Katie Jo, Westley, Jackie, and Dom as well as Ken (father), John (step father), Betty (step mother), grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles all feel the same deep longing for Korey. His friends were also profoundly impacted and we all wish that we would have known there was something that needed to be done to help Korey.
Even those of us who knew something needed to be done didn't know exactly WHAT to do. AFSP is helping to educate the public and professionals on WHAT to do when someone is suicidal and I want to help them do that.
I will be joining with thousands of people nationwide to walk in AFSP's Orange County CA Walk to benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I would appreciate any support that you give me for this worthwhile cause.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is at the forefront of research, education and prevention initiatives designed to reduce loss of life from suicide. With more than 36,000 lives lost each year in the U.S. and over one million worldwide, the importance of AFSP's mission has never been greater, nor our work more urgent.
