Fundraising Page for Rockland County Walk
September 30, 2012 at Rockland Lake State Park
Eternal can be defined as something without beginning or end---lasting forever. And love---how can one define love? The online dictionary defines it as a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. It's the smile that lights up your face when a person you admire enters the room. Now put these two together and remember this---we may have lost someone because of a completed suicide, but the love does not die. It is eternal...without end. A profound sadness may attempt to obscure it, but love always wins over time and on September 30th at Rockland Lake, you will see love on display.
On this team are a collection of caring people who have felt the sting of a loved one lost to a suicide or just want to help their friends. For me, it happened in 1983 with my older brother Mark and in 1994 with my little brother Matthew. Just to type it now still brings me great sadness...but the love is still there. Both brothers are buried at Rockland Lake, so this walk hits close to home and my surviving sisters will be there to walk with me.
That is just my story and every team member has their own and I encourage you to visit their pages and read them. Each one is unique and painted with their own color of sadness, but there is a common thread among them. We all miss those we lost to suicide and we're about to do something about it starting with this walk.
How can you help? Easy---give one of us a donation and if you would like please join the team. It really is that easy. The focus for the Eternal Love team is based on these three pillars: 1. Honor the loved ones lost to suicide. 2. Prevent future occurrences by raising funds and awareness for AFSP, and 3. Celebrate life. Yes, we will celebrate with a post walk reunion at Kennelly's Grille house right outside the gates of Rockland Lake. We will have earned it!
So---there it is, the 2012 Vision for the Suicide Prevention Walk on September 30th at Rockland Lake, New York. This park houses some very special memories for many of us who grew up in the area. We played there, we worked there, and friends and family now rest in peace there. It is a special place.
Blessings,
Dennis
