Help the California University of Pennsylvania Dance Ensemble and the Student Wellness Center raise money for awareness and advocacy for the prevention of suicide.

My name is Diane Buffington. I am faculty in the depart of psychology and the department of music and theatre, where I instruct dance courses. I am also the director of the Cal U Dance Ensemble and faculty member that initiated having the “You Matter” awareness event.

Every year as the director of the Ensemble, I encourage the student members to pick a topic to present and dance about that is important for society to learn more about collectively. This year it was decided that our topic would be "suicide prevention."

The Cal U Dance Ensemble is an affiliate of the center for undergraduate research and has an interdisciplinary approach that values research methodology and presentation through dance imagery. The most important aspect of presenting our research is making sure that our dance imagery and representation of our topic is accurate. I call it “Dance with a purpose.” Our purpose this year is suicide prevention and we will be presenting “You Matter.”  “You Matter” is a piece that educates and advocates for the need for all of us to be more aware of risk factors and warning signs of suicide. Help us raise money to continue awareness.
