Special message from Melanie Varady, AFSP's Senior Director of the Northeastern Division:
Hello Northeastern Division participants! Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Wellness Challenge! I’m Melanie Varady, your Division Team Captain. My AFSP Area Directors and I are excited to have you join us for this 6 week health challenge. Our goal is to invite all of you to focus on your physical, mental, and spiritual health care. Together, we can earn points as we engage in wellness activities. What can you do? Simple things like walking the dog, gardening, meditation and spending time with your loved ones. Or plan to go hiking, biking, swimming or run a 5K! Whatever you do, remember you are investing in taking care of yourself.
I’m happy to share some photos below of my Northeastern area directors enjoying activities such as spending time with our beloved pets, playing bocce and doing fun stuff outside of work. And to the left is a photo of me getting an ear acupuncture treatment to help with stress and pain at the NH Behavioral Health Conference.
In addition to focusing on wellness, we invite you to join us- register and raise funds for the 2020 Out of the Darkness Experience! Visit afsp.org/FightSuicide and select your location. #TogetherToFightSuicide #GoNortheasternDivision.
The Northeastern Division is home to chapters and events based in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
We'll feature a variety of staff, volunteers, and participants throughout the duration of the Wellness Challenge (August 3rd - September 13th) to help you feel even more connected as you take daily action to bring a sense of mindfulness to why mental health and suicide prevention are important to you.
In the meantime, please make sure you take the following steps as soon as possible:
Please note: you will not begin earning points for activities until the challenge begins on Monday, August 3rd.
We encourage you to update your profile pic in the Kilter Rewards app to the Northeastern Division icon below so you can easily recognize fellow team members as you scroll through the leaderboard. Simply click the image below to download and save it to your mobile device.
