Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Florida Atlantic University Campus Walk

9:00am - 10:00am
The walk is a .8 mile partly shaded route on a sidewalk and paved streets around the Housing Lawn Bar-B-Q area on the Boca Raton Campus. We will walk the loop twice: the first time to raise awareness of mental illness and suicide prevention efforts, the second to support those who have been impacted by suicide loss, and those who are working on mental health and wellness. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.
FAU Student Organizations and Staff will be providing activities. This list will be updated regularly.
Heart Math: The College of Nursing will be hosting Heart Math, which can provide personalized biofeedback data about stress responses.
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
