ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING

Healing Stones

Participants paint and draw messages of hope & remembrance on stones to carry as reminders to stay strong.

Photo Tiles

Participants make photo tiles. Participants are asked to bring a 4×6 photo of a loved one or an inspirational quote.
During the check-in time, volunteers will help participations cut photos, affix to tiles, and then lay them out to dry.
While participants walk, tiles will dry and should then be sealed by volunteers so they’re finished and ready for pick-up when participants return to the closing.

Enchanted Box

Participants can write letters to their lost loved ones, or letters to someone they know that attempted suicide, or even if they want to put down their own troubled thoughts on paper and put it into the box.  It’s a sealed box and no one will ever read what they write.  This is a way for people to express their inner feelings when they’re too afraid to speak them out loud. They can feel free to write words of sorrow, anger, etc. without anyone reading their private thoughts.

Memory Line

Participants can bring photos of lost loved ones to hang on a memory line.

Honor Beads:

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.

WHITE - LOST A CHILD
RED -  LOST A SPOUSE OR PARTNER
GOLD - LOST A PARENT
ORANGE - LOST A SIBLING
PURPLE - LOST A RELATIVE OR FRIEND
SILVER -  LOST FIRST RESPONDER / MILITARY
GREEN - STRUGGLED PERSONALLY
BLUE - SUPPORT THE CAUSE
TEAL - FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF SOMEONE WHO STRUGGLES

CONCERT WITH THE LOUISVILLE CRASHERS

The Louisville Crashers will be joining us again for a concert before and after the event. Is there a song you’d like played in memory of a loved one, or a song that has special meaning to your mental health or healing journey? Email a walk chair today to see if we can get your song played at the walk!
