Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Registration is free and open to the public. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.
Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Treasure Valley Area Walk
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

The walk route starts near the amphitheater of Kleiner Park in Meridian. The route is just over three miles long and is wheelchair and stroller friendly. We do cross several busy intersections along the route so please be sure to follow all traffic signals as well as the directions from route monitors! Click Here to view a map of the route!

Remember, in addition to fundraising online, you will be able to turn in additional cash or check donations at the registration table the day of the Walk.
Memorial Garden: At the walk we will have a Memorial Garden where you can honor the loved ones you Click here to download a copy of a sign you can decorate. We will have printed copies of the sign at the walk and supplies available for you to write on and decorate. You can also bring put a picture of your loved one on the sign. Please note, due to weather and unforseen circumstances, you should only bring pictures that you have additional copies of as they could be lost or damaged during the course of the walk.
Sand Jar: Visit the memorial garden to contribute to the Sand Jar. Different colored sand representing the different ways in which suicide has impacted us will be available. You can pour your color into the jar for this activity. The team captain of the top fundraising team will receive the jar filled with sand!
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are feeling like. Unlike other illnesses, its difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
The Treasure Valley Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.
These Honor Beads are provided to registered participants free of charge.
Paws for Prevention
Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. If you are bringing your four legged friend, please be sure to bring supplies to clean up after them! Be sure to arrive early to have your dog entered into the "Smallest" and "Largest" dog contest! Listen to the announcer at the walk for details!
