PAW FOR PREVENTION
Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome at the event. AND - with a $10 donation, you can pick up an AFSP Pooch bandana at the Paws for Prevention Tent.
Dedicate a sign in memory of a loved one lost to suicide. These signs will be placed along the walk route as a memorial to those we have lost and as a reminder of why we fight to bring the issue of suicide out of the darkness and help those who may still be struggling. For a $50 donation, a sign will be created in memory of your loved one and personalized with a message or quote. After the Walk is finished, you are welcome to take your sign home. If you are interested, remit this order form and payment by September 30th. Click here for a link to the order form.
Make sure to arrive early to allow time to explore the resources area. Information tables hosted by local businesses and non-profit mental health organizations will open at 8:30 am. This will be an opportunity to gather literature, hear about upcoming events, and connect with others who are dedicated to raising awareness of mental illness and suicide, strengthening prevention efforts, and providing support to those impacted by suicide loss.
Join us for kids pumpkin painting, live music by the Zach Coffey Band, food trucks and more!
ACTIVITIES OF HOPE AND HEALING
Wall of Hope: We want to spread the message that it is possible to overcome suicidal thoughts and feelings and that there are many resources available to help those who are struggling to cope. We will have a special area at this year's event for walkers to create a "message of hope" for themselves, someone they know, or just to provide strength to someone who might be struggling.
Help us create a "community of caring" by letting each other know that anyone can experience suicidal thoughts but there is help, and there is hope.
Honor Beads: Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance and a walk that unites a community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones. We all wear honor beads - each color shows our personal connection to the cause, and helps us identify others who understand our experience.
Online registration closes at noon (local time) the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until December 31st.

As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
