Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Bedford Township Walk

When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.

Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Activities of Hope and Healing

Memory Wall

Feel free to bring photos, notes, etc. of your loved one to share on on "Memory Wall".

Memorial Markers

Once again, we will be posting "Memorial Markers" along the walk trail. Feel free to decorate and bring your own sign to be posted. There will also be materials available at the park to design your own poster if you prefer to create one before the walk begins.

Community Resources

Be sure to stop by early to check out local community resources. A variety of agencies and community programs will be available to hand out information and answer questions you may have about services they have available in and around the area.

Team Tents/Picnic

Bring your own team tent and picnic! You are welcome to set up a space just for your team. This is a great way to come together to share stories, honor your loved one, and reconnect with those who share a similar experience. We encourage you to make this time and space your own.

Lawn Games/Kids Activities

We will have Corn Hole, Kan Jam and more available to keep you busy before the walk begins! There will also be face painting, and kids craft tables.

Be The Voice Merchandise

There will be a variety of "Be The Voice" Merchandise available for sale at our BTV Tent. Items include t-shirts, sweat shirts, sweat pants, pins, totes, water bottles and more

Honor Beads

Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection.

There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.

AFSP recognizes the many reasons why participants attend the Out of the Darkness Walk. Be sure to stop by our Honor Beads table after you check in to choose your free beads. Colors are designated by reason for joining us on walk day.

The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.

Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the walk!
