Welcome to the Out of the Darkness Greater Houston Area Experience
While the Out of the Darkness Walks in Southeast Texas are going to be different this year, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. Mental health and suicide prevention are more important than ever. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. We use our voices and share our stories to provide hope.
The Walk is still happening, just in a new and creative way! We would still like to connect with you in person in a way that keeps you and our volunteers safe while following the CDC and local guidelines. We invite you to join us at our 2020 Out of the Darkness Greater Houston Drive Through Event. At this event you will be able to pick up T-shirts and community resources, participate in a memorial event, drop off donations, and purchase merchandise -entirely from your car.
We want to keep you up-to-date with the most current information so be sure to sign up and join us here!
We are always #TogetherToFightSuicide

Although we are not able to gather thousands of people at Town Green Park, we are able to be in large parking lot located just a block away. Now to be located at the corner of Lake Robbins Rd. and Six Pines Rd, we’ve been working hard to transition to the Houston Out of the Darkness Experience where we can still connect with you.
We remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
We realize that nothing can substitute the experience of coming together in person, but we hope to bring a memorable experience to those who join us. We invite you to drive through the OOTD Houston Experience - entirely from your car. Think of it like a lazy river with very short stops along the way to bring donations, pick up a t-shirt (if you raise $150 or more), get memory beads and ribbons, grab a resource bag, visit the merchandise booth and get an exit line car photo op from our Professional photographers. (available on the Walk FB page 3 days after the event). There will be a Virtual Experience at the same time to tune into featuring speeches, awards and performances, including a Santa's Corner Zoom Room for the kids!
Registration is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted until December 31st.

Activities of Hope and Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel like no one understands what you are going through. Unlike other illnesses, it is difficult to look at someone and know their connection. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. Learn more by watching our honor bead video.
The Out of the Darkness Experience is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
