We are inviting participants, teams, sponsors, and donors from Flagstaff, Tucson, Sierra Vista, Prescott, Phoenix and across Arizona to rally together in spirit as we take action together on one day in support of Suicide Prevention in Arizona. This year we have re-imagined some of the most special elements of the Out of the Darkness Walk into an experience participants can recreate with their own families and teams on November 14th called the Arizona Out of the Darkness Experience.
While things may look different, our mission to Save Lives and Bring Hope to Those Affected by Suicide has not changed. We are a strong and resilient community, united in our effort to fight suicide, raise awareness, educate our communities, support those who have lost loved ones, and support those with lived experience. As a chapter, we remain dedicated to providing you with opportunities to connect, heal, share stories, create impact, and show you that you are not alone.
When you participate in the Out of the Darkness Experience, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Thanks to Walkers and Donors like you, AFSP has been able to set a bold goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.

Yes! While some of the event elements will be virtual, the Arizona Out of the Darkness Experience can still be a walk, just on your terms... you get to choose the course, distance, start time, and who walks with you. We encourage everyone to follow safe distancing guidelines as you participate in a way that feels most comfortable to you. The walking is real, it's the community that is virtual this year.
Yes... The Out of the Darkness Experience will be a statewide event on November 14th but there will still be local opportunities to support the Experience that are specific to your walk region. We encourage you to register on the experience page for the walk region closest to where you live (Phoenix, Southern Arizona/Tucson, Flagstaff, Prescott, or Sierra Vista.)

Community resources will be able to provide printed collateral this year to include in Team Captain Experience bags. (One piece per team member.) This is a great opportunity to get information directly into the hands of Team Captains and participants.

Raise $150 by November 14th and receive an official Out of the Darkness Walk T-shirt! Eligible team captains will be able to pick up shirts for qualifying participants on their team at the team captain experience bag pick-up event. Additional shirts will be mailed directly to participants.
