The safety and well-being of our participants, volunteers, and staff is our top priority. We will be closely monitoring the safety guidelines and regulations given by the school/county/state, and will have an in-person walk and/or smaller in-person events as long as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, as well as your dedication to preventing suicide.
The Walk is still happening, just in a new and creative way! While we may not be able to gather all together this year on campus, participants and their teams will be safely walking throughout neighborhoods and parks all across our community in honor of the person(s) for whom they walk and in commemoration of the 2021 UND Out of the Darkness Campus Walk. This is an opportunity to bring our messages of hope and awareness to the places we call home, so carry your Honor & Remembrance signs, wear your OOTD walk t-shirts and beads with pride, and share your experiences on social media using our hashtag #HopewalksatUND
OPENING CEREMONY will begin Online at 2:00 PM. Join us from your computer or phone before you walk as we remember the impact of suicide during the annual Honor Beads Ceremony, share stories of hope and healing, and take time to recognize all of our wonderful top participants, teams, and sponsors furthering our mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.
T-SHIRT & HONOR BEADS PICKUP All participants will be able to come and pick up their Honor Beads and participants who raise $100+ can also get their 2021 UND OOTD T-shirts! Please come to the UND's School of Medicine on Friday April 23rd from 10 am to 2 pm.

Activities of Hope & Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
