Kentucky Virtual Campus Out of the Darkness Walk Week
Kentucky is united in the fight to stop suicide, and that means that even U of L and UK have joined forces to bring suicide prevention to high school and college students throughout Kentucky! While U of L and UK's in-person activities will look different, we are collaborating for virtual content throughout the week of April 10th - April 17th. For this we are inviting participants from every high school and college throughout the state to register for free as part of a school team! We will highlight different schools each day, invite you to free suicide prevention trainings, and help connect your school with resources, no matter where you are in the bluegrass!
To get started follow these steps:
1. Check the list of school teams below to see if a team has already been created for your school
2. Click your school team to register and invite others to join you OR register as a team captain and create a team for your school
3. When you create a new school team, email email@example.com so we can promote your team and work on bringing suicide prevention resources to your school!

Only donations received during this time period will count toward this incentive. Please double check your mailing address to make sure you don't miss out on your prize!
Raise $100 by 04/10/2021 and receive an official Out of the Darkness Campus Walk T-shirt!
Shirts will be mailed out to participants AFTER the event, so please make sure your mailing address is correct when registering.
— Donations can be made to a team, BUT the T-shirt and other incentives are based only on INDIVIDUAL fundraising. Any donations made to the team as a whole will not go to any of the team members' individual fundraising totals.
So please fundraise as an individual by sending friends and family to your personal page, and ask for a team "sponsorship" from local businesses, clubs, etc. and use it as a way to ask for donations during a team fundraising event!
Activities of Hope & Healing
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone.
There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Click the Register Now button at the top of the page to get started right away.
