I'm walking in the Out of the Darkness Johns Hopkins University Campus Walk to fight suicide and support AFSP's bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.
Something I work toward now, and plan to continue to as a nurse, is putting an end to the stigma around mental health and mental illness - discussing it, reflecting on what it means, how to best support someone in need, and how to take care of onself. I am very grateful to have friends, family, and resources who have always supported me in times I have felt I am struggling. I am walking for those who have ever felt completely alone, and have or have not gotten help or support. Our Out of the Darkness Walk encourages our community to come together for anyone who's experiened thoughts of suicide, or lost someone they have loved and known to suicide. If you can join me that day, I would love to walk with you - let me know! If you can't, any donation will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)'s funding research, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide.
Much thanks and peace,
