“The miracle isn’t that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." - John Bingham
Six years ago my older brother Tom died. He was 31 years old. He was a graduate summa cum laude and phi beta kappa from Trinity University. He was a many time marathon runner, iron man triathlete, and he had recently qualified for and was scheduled to run the Boston Marathon. He was, most of all, a beloved uncle, brother, and son. We lost him to suicide.
Brian and I will spend this summer training for the Chicago Marathon and running its 26.2 miles for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), which has the mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The money we raise will help AFSP fund scientific research, educate the public about mood disorders and suicide prevention, promote policies and legislation that impact suicide, and support survivors of suicide loss and people at risk. By running for all of us that have been touched in some way by suicide, Brian and I hope to honor Tom's memory.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal. Any contribution will help the work of AFSP and all donations are 100% tax deductible. Donating online is safe and easy. To make an online donation please click the "Donate Now" button at the top of this page.
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page and please wish us luck completing our training and getting to the starting line healthy. We will take it from there.
