WE NEED YOUR HELP! Without volunteers, the West Potomac High School Out of the Darkness Campus Walk would not be possible, and we are still in need of volunteers on the day of the walk on March 28th. If you will like to help at the event the day of the Walk, please Sign Up to Volunteer Here.
Make Your Own Honor Button: Bring a photo of the person(s) for whom you walk in honor of and create a keepsake that you can wear throughout the day and bring with you to cherish always
Remembrance & Honor Signs: With a $50 gift to this page (just click the Donate button linked), you can purchase an 18 x 24" yard sign "In Memory" or "In Honor" of your loved one to be displayed on the track at the walk. Follow the link above for more info.
Honor Beads: Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental health condition can sometimes feel as if no one understands what you are going through. Wearing honor beads the day of the walk is a way to show each other that we are all connected to the cause, and that no one is alone. There is an honor bead for everyone, whether you have lost a loved one, struggle personally, support a friend and/or family member, or all of the above. The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and our loved ones.
Thanks to the support of our incredible volunteers and donors, the AFSP National Capital Area Chapter (NCAC) is making a difference in our community year-round through research, education, advocacy, and community support. Check out the NCAC website and our Online Newsletter to learn about our impact and some of the exciting things we have been/are doing throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Online registration closes at noon the Friday before the walk. However, anyone who would like to participate can register in person at the walk from the time check-in begins until the walk starts. Walk donations are accepted until June 30th.
When you walk in the Out of the Darkness Walks, you join the effort with hundreds of thousands of people to raise awareness and funds that allow AFSP to invest in new research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss.
As the leader in the fight against suicide, and thanks to walkers like you from cities across the country, AFSP has been able to set a goal to reduce the annual suicide rate 20% by 2025.
