Donation Questions

I received a donation offline, what should I do?
You can mail check donations received directly to AFSP and our staff will add the donation to your Personal Campaign page. Just complete an offline donation form and send along with the check to the address on the form.

An offline donation is not appearing on my Personal Campaign page. What should I do?
Due to the high volume of donations AFSP receives in the mail during specific times of year, please allow 2-3 weeks from the date that the donation is received to post to your account. We strongly encourage our donors to make online credit card donations, for the donation is processed immediately and is visible on the homepage shortly thereafter. If your donation does not post within this time frame, please email our Development Team, development@afsp.org.

Is it necessary to send a separate donation form for each donation?
Yes, in order for a donation to be processed properly please send a separate completed offline donation form for each donation.

Can I mail a cash donation in with a donation form?
No, please do not send cash through the mail. For any cash donation you receive, please deposit the cash into your checking account and send a personal check from your account with a completed offline donation form. The donation will be credited to the name on the donation form.

Are donations tax deductible?
All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Who should I make my check out to?
Please make all checks payable to: AFSP or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Those who donate $250 or more and do not have an email address will receive a copy of the receipt in the mail (receipts are sent at the end of every tax quarter). Those who donate online can log in to their accounts at any time a print a pdf receipt for donations given. The IRS accepts cancelled checks as a receipt for donations $249 and under.
